Mesmergram for June 2009

"Art is the alternative to living."
-- Unknown
Another month, another show at Artomatic! We had a great time there last month and are looking forward to another fine show this round. There was some really good art including photography by Jenn (our drummer Peter's wife), photography by Greg Garecki (who did our photoshoot) and my personal favorite robot painter.
Upcoming Shows
Sunday 6/28/2009 - 7:30 p.m. - The Mesmers in DC at Artomatic for 1.5 hours. On the Cabaret stage.

Day of the Dead Soundtrack

One of the great synth-pop scores of the 80s has to be John Harrison's Day of the Dead. Rich, warm analog synth sounds pulse away with menace and whimsy. It's a great listen if you can find a copy. For such a big and diverse sound it's surprising the paucity of the synth gear Mr. Harrison used to create it:
- Sequential Circuits Prophet 5
- Korg T3
- Yamaha DX7
Of course, Trent Reznor created the first (and best) Nine Inch Nails album using largely just one board: an Emax Emulator sampler. There really is something to having less gear. Really focusing in on a few choice instruments and getting the most out of them.

Artomatic Tomorrow

Tomorow at 6:30 p.m. we'll take the stage for a full band show at Artomatic for 1 hour (or more if we can sneak it in, we're the last act).
One quick correction: We'll be on the Caberet stage tomorrow, and then the Electric stage next month (I'd listed them the other way around).

Mesmergram for May 2009

"A painting in a museum hears more ridiculous opinions than anything else in the world."
-- Edmond de Goncourt
A sculpture of used chewing gum, string, popsicle sticks, and q-tips??? Yes, I saw it one year at Artomatic... but I also saw a lot of less, uh, challenged art as well. Come out to ArtoMatic this month, catch all the art (good and bad), and see us play two shows. We'll have a bunch of brand new songs from Fitz's solo effort, Subway To Another Life, for you to hear and Peter's wife, Jenn, has a photography exhibit on display.
Speaking of Subway To Another Life, it's suffered some delays but will be arriving in the station real soon. Promise...

Jammin' With Jezabel
Thanks to the ladies from Wicked Jezebel for inviting me up on stage last night to jam with them! Lots of fun!
If you've never seen them perform you should try and catch them. An all-female band of crack musicians that crank out crank out a seriously wide repertoire of cover tunes. I personally think they're best at the hard stuff like Zeppelin or White Snake.
