So much of our material has come from spontaneous jam sessions that being able to record everything we play is critically important. We've knocked around several ideas and systems in an effort to balance sound quality, mobility, and ease of use. Our current solution isn't exactly cheap unless you already own a video iPod, but it yields surprisingly good sound quality and is extremely convenient. The hardware includes:

SP-OTTER-1 |
SP-OTTER-1 Open |
Belkin Tunetalk Stereo |
|
iPod |

The Otter box form Sound Professionals has built in mics on either side of the box so it's a simple matter to start the iPod recording, close the case, and have a solid system that's very durable and portable. Battery life is good for a little over two hours of recording time. The Belkin/iPod combo make for transfer to your computer a breeze. Files are added to your iTunes library and then can easily be edited and organized for later use. This is by far the most time-saving feature of this system.
